IAS Shubhankar Pratyush Pathak hails from the East Champaran district of Bihar, but his family currently lives in Delhi. His father is also a civil servant and is presently posted as a Secretary in the Technology Development Board which is a statutory body under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
With the influence of his father, Shubhankar Pathak always wanted to become an IAS officer from his childhood but the subjects of social sciences and humanities didn’t interest him in school days. He loves Mathematics a lot, so ended up taking Science in his 12th in Sanskriti School, Chanakyapuri and then got into IIT (ISM) Dhanbad to pursue his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
After becoming an engineer, Shubhankar Pratush Pathak also worked as a Software Developer in Cisco Systems for 6 months. And then quit his job to start the preparation for Civil Services Examination and fulfil his childhood dream of becoming an IAS officer.
As he loved Mathematics from his childhood and UPSC offers the option for it, Shubhankar Pratyush Pathak took Mathematics optional in the UPSC Civil Services Examination and cracked the same in his first attempt itself.
UPSC Topper Shubhankar Pratyush Pathak has scored 1025 marks out of 2025 marks in total which comprises 832 marks in the Civil Services (Main) written exam and 193 marks in the Personality Test, also known as the interview in general.
Subhankar Pratyush Pathak first referred to the standard UPSC preparation books, and then completed his preparation from Rau’s IAS Online Coaching Program by referring to its class notes, magazines and current affairs. Listening to the mentors from his coaching and revising, again and again, has helped him secure All India Rank 11 in his very first attempt in the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
